Bento and wine

Why has it taken us so long to pair them up?

bento-box-and-naked-wineBento and wine – a pairing whose time has come.  The typical Bento box is a meal consisting of rice, fish or meat, pickled and/or cooked vegetables as a side dish. It’s origins are Japanese and date back to the 1100’s. Archaeologists believe they have evidence to support wine production taking place as early as 6500BC. Why has it taken us so long to pair them up? I don’t know, but I can tell you that a glass of Riesling or Pinot Gris can give green tea a run for its money. Pinot Gris and Riesling work well with Asian cuisine as they are high in acid, have a clean crisp mouth feel and are fermented in 100% stainless steel which allows you to get all of the fruit aromatics with none of the oak that you may find in, say, a Chardonnay. Concerned about getting work done the rest of the day after a glass of wine? Don’t worry our Riesling and Pinot’s have alcohol levels ranging from 12.5-13%. So, a glass will not leave you tipsy.
